Bio & Contact Info
A brief personal sketch
I was raised in the arid San Joaquin Valley in central California; during my youth, I enjoyed eating grapes and reading Steinbeck… I later received my BA in Psychology from UC-Santa Barbara, and my PhD in Social Psychology from Ohio State, but I consider myself to be a lifetime student!
Since moving to the Big Island, I’ve worked in executive management and psychometric capacities at a state-wide substance abuse clinic and also do college admissions advising to HS students in East Hawaii. I’m currently a lecturer in the Psychology Dept. at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. I also teach online as part-time faculty at Walden University, The University of Phoenix and Argosy University. In addition to Social Psychology, I’ve taught General Psych, Research Methods, Statistical Techniques, and Testing & Measurement at one or more of these settings. I enjoy each class as a new adventure in learning (for me as well as them!)…

Avocational Interests
I enjoy hiking (there is a ton of it here on this island), snorkeling and a variety of other outdoor activities. I am also very interested in astronomy, so I am quite fortunate that the Keck telescope and other observatories are at the summit of Mauna Kea… These recreational activities, in conjunction with much of the work experience above, has taught a great deal to me about the uniqueness of the Hawaiian culture, and has contributed immeasurably to my own personal educational development–much more than I would have ever guessed.
On another note, I am currently beginning a quest to become multi-lingual. I’m attempting to learn Spanish and Chinese by pen palling and conversing with native speakers via Skype free internet telephony. Any native speakers are welcome to contact me and strike up a conversation! It is a fascinating experience and another valued opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the true cultural diversity of this planet that we all share.
